Across the Color Line plays with code-switching to amplify Black landscapes. The project amplifies existing Black spaces and neighborhood narratives, creating pockets of Black plurality and joy—a new mode to creating diverse and inclusive public spaces. Mattapan is a segregated Black community adjacent to the Neponset River, a color line and boundary. The youth in Mattapan have been subjected to years of systemic inequity, exacerbated by Mattapan being the only neighborhood in Boston without a high school.  The design is an after-school program that addresses the absence of education and breaks the cycle of violence. Social equity is at the core of the design and is planned by providing students in Mattapan with safe places for learning, playing, and gathering after school.
