Fold House is an off-the-grid tiny home located in the rural landscape of Takumegooch, now called Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia. The client’s desire for a 400-square-foot house was paired with deep respect and care for her cultural and physical connections with the earth. The aim was to provide a visual, physical, and visceral connection to the outdoors while minimally impacting the environment. Fold House’s reciprocal relationship with the outdoors was an exercise in pragmatism. Intentionality in the form harvests energy from the sun and conservation of water from the earth to fuel itself.
