Chile faces rapid cultural transformation in a time of globalization, migration, and climate change. These transient phenomena have disconnected Chileans from traditional and indigenous ways of connecting to the landscape and one another. This project seeks to connect indigenous cosmology, the festival of la Pampilla, and a desalination plant on a mismanaged site. The region is proposing a new desalination plant that will provide the community with potable water. This proposal uses the hard surfaces of the plant to create new civic spaces along the coast. By shifting the festival from the heavily compacted soil to the sunken desalination plant's roof, the site's ecology can recover, and the community gains a new urban nature park.
