Science in Biology Celina AbbaSpatial Researcher at Forensis, Forensic Architecture Celina is a trained architect, landscape architect, and researcher who explores the intersections between architecture, human/non-human rights, and living systems. She works as a spatial researcher at Forensis, the Berlin office of Forensic Architecture. Her research delves into lost narratives of land and people. Uncovering these narratives allows for speculating new Black futures that are rooted in care and kinship. Her ongoing research project, Plantation Futures, challenges traditional paradigms of landscape architectural conservation. Through experimentation with digital technologies and eco-poetry, the project pioneers new ways of envisioning the future. The project is on view at the Venice Biennale Architettura 2025 and at Time Space Existence.Celina has lectured internationally. She is currently, working on a project that traces the length of the Mississippi River, revealing the continuous reproduction of racial and ecological violence and illustrating the intricate ties between historical and contemporary forms of exploitation and oppression. By examining the legacy of plantations, the practice of sharecropping, and the evolution of prison farming, Celina is uncovering the persistent impacts of these systems on both people and the environment. Celina graduated with distinction from the Harvard Graduate School of Design with a Master of Landscape Architecture, where she was awarded the Landscape Architecture Thesis Prize, the LAF Olmsted Scholar, and the prestigious Charles Eliot Traveling Fellowship. She also holds a Master of Architecture (Distinction) for which she received the AIA Henry Adams Medal, as well as Bachelor's degrees in Biology and Environmental Design Studies. I am an African American woman from St. Thomas, USVI, currently living in Berlin, Germany. As a researcher, I have access to the necessary resources required to conduct my work. It showcases a process of identifying the primary borders of a specific site and enhancing the area’s permeability by engaging with these borders and reimagining the spaces they delineate. This project reimagines Harmony Circle in New Orleans as a contemporary hush harbor, a place of refuge, memory, and gathering that directly confronts the site’s legacy as a platform for Confederate commemoration. These transient phenomena have disconnected Chileans from traditional and indigenous ways of connecting to the landscape and one another. This project seeks to connect indigenous cosmology, the festival of la Pampilla, and a desalination plant on a mismanaged site. The region is proposing a new desalination plant that will provide the community with potable water. This proposal uses the hard surfaces of the plant to create new civic spaces along the coast. By shifting the festival from the heavily compacted soil to the sunken desalination plant's roof, the site's ecology can recover, and the community gains a new urban nature park. <img width="13200" Gomez&nbsp;Location: Massachusetts, United States GSD, Landscape Architecture Spring 2022 Across the Color Line plays with code-switching to amplify Black landscapes. The project amplifies existing Black spaces and neighborhood narratives, creating pockets of Black plurality and joy—a new mode to creating diverse and inclusive public spaces. Mattapan is a segregated Black community adjacent to the Neponset River, a color line and boundary. The youth in Mattapan have been subjected to years of systemic inequity, exacerbated by Mattapan being the only neighborhood in Boston without a high school.&nbsp; The design is an after-school program that addresses the absence of education and breaks the cycle of violence. Social equity is at the core of the design and is planned by providing students in Mattapan with safe places for learning, playing, and gathering after school. <img width="14845" height="2200"
